17th January 2025 – (Beijing) Chinese and Thai law enforcement agencies have arrested 12 suspects involved in scam operations that resulted in the disappearance and entrapment of Chinese nationals, as announced by China’s state security ministry on Friday.

In response to the rising threat of cross-border telecom fraud, the ministry pledged to maintain a “high-pressure crackdown” on such criminal activities. This joint operation underscores the increasing collaboration between nations to combat transnational crime.

On Thursday, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi called for Southeast Asian countries to intensify their efforts against online gambling and telecom fraud. He highlighted the alarming rise of such cases along the Thai-Myanmar border, emphasising their detrimental impact on Chinese citizens and others in the region.
