7th September 2024 – (Hong Kong) The Sustainable Lantau Office (SLO) of the Civil Engineering and Development Department (CEDD) is set to host the “Flying to the Moon and Chasing our Dreams” Lantern Festival at Tung Chung East Promenade from 8th September to 22nd September inviting the public to join in the festivities of the Mid-Autumn Festival.

Designed by renowned film director and contemporary artist Mr William Kan, the festival boasts an astral theme featuring a striking 6-metre-tall rocket accompanied by a whimsical space rabbit. Attendees can also enjoy a large luminous moon chair, decorative lights representing the eight planets, and charming lanterns crafted by hundreds of kindergarten and primary school students. A dedicated “Dreams Come True” space, measuring 12 metres wide, will showcase animations on a giant screen, immersing visitors in a simulated space journey.

Daily lighting hours will run from 7pm to 10pm, with extended hours until midnight on the Mid-Autumn Festival Day (17th September) and until 11pm the following day (18th September).

In conjunction with the festival, an exhibition titled “Space Exploration and Innovation Technology” will highlight the nation’s advancements in aerospace development, Hong Kong’s contributions, and the innovative technologies employed by the CEDD.

On the Mid-Autumn Festival Day and the following day, a variety of free activities will enrich the celebrations, including creative digital photography experiences, street magic performances, lantern riddles, booth games, and snack distributions. Additionally, the Tung Chung Community Liaison Centre at the promenade will extend its opening hours to 10pm throughout the festival, welcoming all members of the public to join in the celebrations.
