19th January 2025 – (Hong Kong) Regina Ip, the chairperson of the New People’s Party, was rushed to the hospital on 18th January after discovering a painful abscess on her right thigh. The condition, characterised by redness and swelling, required immediate surgical intervention to drain the pus and clean the wound. She attributed the sudden onset of the abscess to her habit of wearing tight-fitting leggings while hiking, explaining that the accumulation of oil obstructed her pores and led to bacterial infection.
In a candid post on Facebook titled “I Have Lost This Battle,” Ip expressed her apologies for missing a scheduled community engagement in the Central and Southern Districts, acknowledging that her condition may have been exacerbated by her travels.
Despite the setback, Ip remains active on social media, frequently sharing her hiking adventures and showcasing her stylish outfits. Her Instagram feed is filled with images of her enjoying the outdoors, often highlighting her well-toned legs.
Following the procedure, which included anaesthesia and a prescription for antibiotics to be taken over the next week, Ip reported significant improvement in her condition. She noted that her wound felt much more comfortable after the surgery.
Ip has urged fellow fitness enthusiasts to prioritise hygiene, especially when wearing close-fitting clothing during summer activities. She emphasised the importance of regular washing to prevent similar issues, advising those who exercise frequently to be vigilant about skin care.
As she prepares to travel to Switzerland to attend the World Economic Forum’s Women Political Leaders Forum, Ip is grateful that her health is on the mend
