1st August 2024 – (Hong Kong) A CCTV footage showing a mahjong parlour employee in Wan Chai, seemingly pocketing cash has gone viral on social media, sparking outrage and calls for harsh punishment from netizens.

In a disturbing CCTV footage that has surfaced online, an employee at a mahjong parlour on Lockhart Road in Wanchai, was caught on camera seemingly pocketing cash while “counting money” at the counter.

The video shows the male employee holding a stack of cash and quickly folding and placing some of the bills into his left pants pocket, all while furtively glancing around to ensure no one is watching. He then calmly recounts the remaining cash and hands it over to a female colleague, who verifies the amount without incident.

The footage has sparked outrage among netizens, with many condemning the employee’s actions as blatant theft. “With CCTV cameras everywhere, was he really that stupid?” commented one user. Others called for severe punishment, with some even suggesting the employee’s hand should be “smashed with a brick five times.”

However, some netizens took a more measured approach, arguing that the modern era calls for more civilised forms of discipline. “I think the best thing to do now is to report him to the police and then fire him, no need for any violence,” wrote one user.
