14th January 2025 – (Hong Kong) Ms Li Na, the Deputy Director General of the Department of Foreign Trade under China’s Ministry of Commerce, has led a delegation from the Mainland to Hong Kong to ensure a stable supply of quality agricultural products during the upcoming Chinese New Year. The delegation, which includes representatives from the Ministry of Commerce, the General Administration of Customs, and the Department of Commerce of Guangdong Province, aims to secure a sufficient and diverse food supply for the residents of Hong Kong.
Accompanied by officials from the Environment and Ecology Bureau, the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department, and the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department, the group visited the Po On Road Market and the Western Wholesale Food Market this morning to assess the supply of fresh food.
The Mainland remains the primary supplier of agricultural products to Hong Kong, particularly fresh and live food. Authorities on the Mainland have prioritised the quality, safety, and stability of food exports to Hong Kong, operating under principles of “high quality, appropriate amount, balance, and seasonality.” A robust liaison mechanism has been established to facilitate this ongoing cooperation.
As the festive season approaches, the Ministry of Commerce has directed relevant agencies to strengthen supply sources and enhance contingency plans to ensure a steady flow of safe agricultural products.
