8th May 2024 – (Hong Kong) In 2023, Lynn Wang, the 1st runner-up of the Miss Hong Kong pageant, found herself embroiled in controversy shortly after, with accusations surfacing regarding her parents’ alleged involvement in financial fraud. Numerous victims took to the popular social media platform XiaoHongShu to claim that Wang’s parents operated tutoring centres in over ten cities in mainland China, withholding wages from thousands of employees and scamming millions of dollars in tuition fees from over a thousand parents. Despite their successful legal battles, the victims have yet to receive any compensation. Known for her active presence on social media, Wang boasted 25,000 followers on XiaoHongShu and 241,000 followers on TikTok. However, in an attempt to avoid further scrutiny, she deleted all her posts on both platforms in late August last year, leaving only a single post on each account. Since then, Wang has maintained a relatively low profile, rarely appearing in public unless it is a company-arranged event.
After a nine-month absence, Wang finally uploaded a new video on TikTok, stating, “I don’t have any plans to change my account for now since I still have to browse videos every day. If there are any updates in the future, I will let everyone know. However, as far as I know, there won’t be any changes. That’s it for now!” Apparently, many people had asked her if she intended to delete her TikTok account, prompting her to address the question in the video. Some internet users interpreted her action as a way to gauge public sentiment, while others brought up the allegations against her parents, urging her to respond and even accusing her of having a thicker skin than expected.
