15th January 2025 – (Warsaw) Poland’s presidency of the Council of the European Union aims to resolve the impasse surrounding Ukraine’s EU accession, Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced on Wednesday. Speaking at a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Warsaw, Tusk affirmed Poland’s commitment to collaborating with Ukraine and other European partners to expedite the accession process.
Tusk also indicated that Poland is prepared to host a third summit focused on Ukraine’s reconstruction, emphasising that Polish businesses will play a significant role in the rebuilding efforts.
Zelensky highlighted the urgency of Ukraine’s membership in both the EU and NATO, framing it as a critical security issue rather than merely a diplomatic or economic concern. He stated that Ukraine’s independence serves as a safeguard for the security and autonomy of Poland and other European nations, a principle he described as fundamental to Ukrainian-Polish cooperation. Additionally, he noted ongoing discussions with Tusk regarding joint investments in the energy and arms sectors.
