Police on Friday intervened in a protest by loan shark victims, arresting scores of protesters.

The group of victims from the eastern Tarai has been staging protests in Kathmandu demanding that the government take action against unscrupulous lenders.

Police rounded up the protesters in front of the main entrance of Singha Durbar, the central government secretariat, after they breached the prohibited area.

On April 2, government officials and the representatives of loan-shark victims had signed a five-point agreement with regard to addressing the problems of the victims of predatory lending. But a group of victims has continued the protest.
