10th January 2025 – (Hong Kong) During the final performance of Andy Lau’s “Today… is the Day” concert tour at the Hong Kong Coliseum in Hung Hom today, police received at least six reports of incidents, including a fire, suspicious vehicles, and a fight. Investigations revealed that these calls were malicious hoaxes, all originating from the same mobile phone number. Authorities have categorised the cases as a waste of police resources.
The first report came in around 8.51pm, claiming that there was a fire in the backstage area and an individual had been injured. The caller, who identified as a staff member, reported an electrical fire and their own injury. Emergency services responded quickly, but upon inspection, firefighters confirmed that no fire had occurred.
Within minutes, further reports followed: the second report mentioned a suspicious vehicle outside the venue, and the third claimed a fight was taking place inside. However, police investigations confirmed that both reports were false.
Later, at approximately 9pm, another call indicated that a spectator was feeling unwell inside the venue. Paramedics arrived but found no one in distress. Shortly after, four fire trucks were seen rushing to the scene following yet another report of a fire around 9.37pm, which turned out to be another false alarm.
By around 10pm, an ambulance that had previously left returned after receiving a sixth report claiming someone had collapsed at the main entrance. Once again, this was confirmed to be a hoax after investigations by paramedics and police.
In addition to the false reports, two mainland Chinese men approached officers during the incident, seeking help after purchasing six invalid tickets for Lau’s concert. Although the tickets were initially deemed genuine, they were later identified as lost and therefore invalid, prompting the men to request police assistance.
