25th May 2024 – (Hong Kong) Famous Hong Kong food critic, Chua Lam, known for his discerning palate and culinary expertise, has been making headlines once again. At the age of 82, Chua Lam has been leading a rather extravagant lifestyle, evident in his recent revelations about his living arrangements and preferences.

Last year, Chua Lam suffered a fall and required time for recuperation. Coupled with the renovation of his former residence on La Salle Road, he has temporarily relocated to a hotel-style apartment in Tsim Sha Tsui. Since the passing of his wife, Chua Lam has assembled a team of eight individuals to cater to his daily needs, with an estimated monthly cost of HK$500,000. His ability to both earn and spend money lavishly has earned him admiration from the entire city, as he truly understands the art of enjoying life to the fullest.

In a recent video, Chua Lam shared his fondness for aged Pu-erh tea cakes, known for their rich and intense flavour. Playfully, he remarked that his stomach lacks ink, emphasising his preference for strong and concentrated tea. Sharp-eyed netizens quickly pointed out that a single piece of such tea cake can command a price tag of HK$10,000, leaving the entire city shocked by the level of indulgence.

During the interview, Chua Lam candidly disclosed the composition of his dedicated team, which includes a secretary, personal assistant, morning caregiver, and two Indonesian domestic helpers, totalling five individuals. Additionally, he has two more caregivers for the evening and a driver, making a total of eight people. However, Chua Lam expressed that this is still not his ideal retirement life, humorously stating that only after his wife’s passing could he employ such a large team, as she would never allow him to spend money in this manner.
