15th January 2025 – (Hong Kong) SINOPEC’s PIT (Power In Time) charging brand, in partnership with Huawei Hong Kong Digital Energy, has unveiled its new ultra-fast charging service at the PIT Ultra station located in the new wing of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. The facility features eight liquid-cooled ultra-fast charging bays and five medium-speed charging bays, capable of serving up to 13 electric vehicles simultaneously. The service officially commenced today, with a promotional rate of HK$2.8 per kW available until 14th February, providing an economical and efficient charging option for electric vehicle users.

At the opening ceremony, SINOPEC Hong Kong’s director and General Manager Wu Qinggao, was joined by notable guests, including the Secretary for Environment and Ecology, Tse Chin-wan, and representatives from various organisations, including the Hong Kong Trade Development Council and Huawei.

In his address, Secretary Tse highlighted the government’s initiatives to promote green vehicle transformation, noting a significant increase in electric vehicle numbers—now approximately seven times higher than five years ago. He expressed enthusiasm for the advanced liquid-cooled charging technology that promises to enhance the charging experience for users and meet the increasing demand for electric vehicle charging.

Wu reiterated SINOPEC’s commitment to supporting Hong Kong’s energy transition and social responsibility, noting that PIT is collaborating with numerous parking facilities across the city to establish nearly 200 charging points. This growing network aims to provide efficient and convenient charging solutions for electric vehicle owners.

Strategically located at the Convention Centre, the PIT Ultra station offers easy access from major thoroughfares, including the Island Eastern Corridor. The advanced charging equipment developed by Huawei can deliver a peak power of up to 600 kW, enabling vehicles that support 240 kW charging to gain 100 km of range in as little as 3.8 minutes.

This innovative charging technology caters to various vehicle models, boasting a 99% success rate for charging sessions. Compared to traditional charging stations, the liquid-cooling system enhances heat dissipation and ensures a quieter, more stable, and safer charging experience. Furthermore, a dynamic power load system significantly reduces charging times—an 80 kWh battery can be charged from 20% to 80% in approximately seven minutes.

In addition to the Convention Centre station, another PIT Ultra charging station has opened at the Yu Chui Shopping Centre in Sha Tin, offering two 600 kW liquid-cooled charging bays and ten 350 kW air-cooled bays, further enhancing convenience for local residents. SINOPEC plans to expand its network of fast-charging points across the region.

PIT’s team utilises data analytics to optimise the placement and services of charging stations, aiming to minimise wait times and improve the overall charging experience. The straightforward pricing model, charging per kilowatt-hour, ensures transparency and allows drivers to better plan their charging schedules.

Electric vehicle users can easily locate available charging points via the PIT EV Charging App, which also facilitates a simple charging process through QR code scanning. SINOPEC is committed to expanding its network and working collaboratively with various sectors to advance the development of green energy in Hong Kong, striving towards the goal of carbon neutrality by 2050.
