13th January 2025 – (Washington) Steve Bannon, the far-right political strategist and former chief strategist for Donald Trump, has declared his intent to oust Elon Musk from the former president’s orbit, labelling the tech billionaire as “racist” and “truly evil.” In a recent interview with the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, translated excerpts of which were shared by Breitbart News, Bannon expressed his determination to ensure that Musk does not have privileged access to the White House by Inauguration Day.
Bannon’s animosity towards Musk stems from the billionaire’s vocal support for the H-1B visa programme, which allows employers to hire foreign workers with specialised skills. Musk has referred to H-1B immigrants as “critical” to companies like SpaceX and Tesla, a position that has drawn ire from Bannon and other hardline Trump supporters.
In the interview, Bannon condemned the H-1B programme, claiming it is exploited by “tech overlords” for their benefit, contributing to widespread frustration among the American public. He stated, “This thing of the H-1B visas… the entire immigration system is gamed.”
While Bannon’s criticisms have intensified, Trump has so far sided with Musk, describing the H-1B system as a “great programme” in a December interview. However, Bannon appears undeterred, asserting his resolve to “take this guy down” and expressing a newfound intolerance for Musk’s influence.
Musk, who has reportedly contributed around $277 million to Trump’s campaign, has established himself within the former president’s circle, even earning an unofficial advisory role. Yet, recent reports suggest that Trump is growing weary of Musk’s presence, with journalist Maggie Haberman noting that the former president has expressed dissatisfaction with Musk’s frequent involvement.
