4th January 2025 – (Hong Kong) A CCTV recording has circulated online, capturing a suspicious figure in Shui Wo Village, Tai Po, in the early hours of 4th January. The footage shows a man, dressed in blue and carrying a backpack, lingering outside a residential property for nearly a minute, peering through windows and exhibiting increasingly dubious behaviour.

The one-minute clip features a man wearing a cap, gloves, a dark blue top, and grey trousers, stealthily approaching a village house. His actions, which include cautiously ascending stairs and attempting to open doors, have drawn sharp criticism from online viewers, with many commenting on his brazen disregard for caution, notably not wearing a mask. Observers noted that a series of burglaries had recently occurred in the same village, urging residents to secure their doors and windows.

In a subsequent video uploaded by the homeowner later that evening, the same individual was seen stealthily navigating narrow alleyways, attempting to open a locked door before ultimately leaving without further action. This brazen behaviour has heightened community concerns, prompting calls for vigilance, especially as the festive season draws near.

Authorities received a report at 4.50am regarding the man’s suspicious presence, which had triggered an alarm at a village house. Police are actively pursuing a suspect described as being in his twenties to thirties, dressed similarly to the individual in the footage.

Community members have expressed alarm over the recent increase in similar incidents, highlighting a break-in that occurred on 22nd December 2024, resulting in losses of HK$120,000, and another series of burglaries in October, which amounted to around HK$70,000 in stolen goods. Residents are now on high alert, closely monitoring their surroundings as they prepare for the festive season.
