10th January 2025 – (Taipei) A Taiwanese man recently took to the Dcard discussion forum to express his frustrations about his girlfriend’s hygiene habits, revealing that their cohabitation has brought to light some unpleasant surprises. During a recent trip abroad, the man discovered that his girlfriend only packed one set of underwear, which she wore for six consecutive days without washing, leading him, a self-confessed germaphobe, to feel increasingly distressed.
In his post titled “Girlfriend’s Hygiene Habits Are Too Poor; I Want to Break Up,” he described how his girlfriend, who he had always perceived as a “beautiful and fragrant girl,” turned out to be quite the opposite in domestic settings. He noted issues like dirty dishes left unwashed for three days, kitchen waste left for a week, and hair left in the shower drain after washing, leading him to declare, “It’s driving me crazy.”
Although he would ask her to clean up, he sensed that she viewed his requests as excessive, causing a strain on their relationship.
The tipping point came during their week-long trip to Japan last month, where he discovered she had only brought the underwear she was wearing at the time of departure. When questioned, she justified her decision by saying, “Japan is dry and cold, so I won’t sweat; there’s no need to carry extra weight.”
The thought of sharing a bed with someone who had worn the same underwear for six days was unbearable for him. He followed up by asking if she planned to wash it each night and hang it to dry, to which she replied that frequent washing would distort her underwire bra, making it unnecessary.
He offered to buy her quick-dry, wire-free options and even volunteered to wash them for her, but she declined, stating she didn’t want anyone else cleaning her intimate garments.
“I was genuinely frustrated; she knew about my germophobia before we started dating. Why would she even ask me such a question? I’ve already made considerable accommodations for her ‘casual’ lifestyle, handling most household chores myself. If she could manage her own hygiene, I wouldn’t have to feel like a nagging parent,” he lamented.
Since then, they have been in a silent feud for nearly a month, prompting him to question their compatibility. He wondered if he was being overly critical while feeling that his girlfriend lacked understanding of his concerns. “This relationship seems to be at a standstill,” he reflected, yet he also reminisced about their happier times together, prompting him to seek advice from other forum users.
The post sparked significant debate online, with many users condemning the girlfriend’s behaviour and advising the man to end the relationship. Comments included, “I’m not a germaphobe, but I value cleanliness; I can’t imagine being with someone who doesn’t change their underwear. It’s a hygiene nightmare,” and “While underwear doesn’t have to be washed daily, panties definitely should. Women need to be mindful of cleanliness, and wearing the same pair for a week is unacceptable.”
