11th January 2025 – (Bangkok) A 31-year-old Thai man, Alongkorn Deeying from Kanchanaburi, tragically fell from the 14th floor of an 18-storey building in Poipet, Cambodia, on the night of 8th January. Investigations suggest that his death may have been a suicide, driven by immense pressure from his employment at a scam call centre.

CCTV footage of the incident has circulated widely on Thai social media, sparking speculation that Alongkorn was either fleeing a pursuer or may have fallen victim to human trafficking. The “Drama-addict” Facebook page reported that the building is known to host casino and call centre operations, luring numerous Thai workers into fraudulent schemes. Alarmingly, there have been over ten similar incidents involving falls from this location.

Cambodian authorities have confirmed that Alongkorn’s family has been informed of his death, but they have opted not to repatriate his body to Thailand due to the costs involved. Instead, his remains will be cremated at a local temple, with the ashes returned to his family in Thailand.

His mother, Pinnapha Deeying, expressed her confusion regarding the circumstances surrounding her son’s death. She last spoke to him on January 6, when he mentioned plans to work with friends in Ratchaburi for three days. Pinnapha has called on those who were with Alongkorn to provide information that could aid in investigating the call centre’s operations where he worked.
