Three bus companies increase fares starting today, with most expensive route rising by HK$2

5th January 2025 – (Hong Kong) As of today, three major bus companies in Hong Kong have implemented fare increases, with the new prices taking effect at 2.30am. Kowloon Motor Bus (KMB) has raised fares by 4.3%, Citybus by 7.5%, and New Lantao Bus by 6.5%. Eight B routes, which connect to border ports, have seen fare hikes of up to 13%. For example, the fare for Citybus’s B8 route between Tai Wai Station and Heung Yuen Wai Port has risen from HK$16.1 to HK$18.1, while KMB’s B9 route from Tuen Mun Station to Heung Yuen Wai Port now costs HK$21.3.

For KMB’s routes in Kowloon and the New Territories, most fare increases range from HK$0.2 to HK$0.4, with 34 routes seeing an increase of HK$0.7. Cross-harbour routes have increased by HK$0.6 to HK$1.6. KMB’s monthly pass price has also been adjusted to HK$834, with the company noting that 95% of passengers will see increases of less than HK$1 per trip. Citybus fares will rise by between HK$0.3 and HK$2, resulting in an average additional cost of about HK$0.6 per trip for passengers.

Notices detailing the fare changes are posted at bus stops, and passengers can also check updated fare information on the respective bus companies’ websites or the Transport Department’s site.
