5th January 2025 – (Beijing) Recent claims circulating among netizens suggested that 80% of graduates from Beijing’s Tsinghua University do not return after studying abroad. In response, Tsinghua released employment data for its 2024 graduating class on 3rd January, revealing that the actual percentage of graduates pursuing further studies overseas is just 9.6%, with more than 60% of these students returning to China.
The data indicates that the proportion of undergraduate students studying abroad is 18.4%, while the figure for master’s students stands at 7.3%. Over the past decade, the average rate of graduates studying internationally has been 10.5%. Notably, the employment rate for alumni in key domestic sectors exceeds 85%, with an 11% increase in job placements in manufacturing and energy sectors compared to last year, marking five consecutive years of growth. Additionally, 47.8% of doctoral graduates are employed in academic positions, a figure that has consistently remained above 45% for the past five years.
Tsinghua University further emphasized that its employment rate for graduates in crucial domestic fields has surpassed 80% for over a decade, with the software, information technology services, and scientific research sectors being the most prominent in terms of job placements.
