2nd October 2024 – (Hong Kong) A Fulum Palace manager was filmed in a heated altercation with a patron, leading to widespread online debate and scrutiny. The video, which spans just under three minutes, shows the manager dressed in a black suit aggressively exchanging words with an older female diner, with both parties resorting to filming the encounter on their mobile phones.
The conflict, which took place at the Fulum Palace located at Shop L116, 1/F, Tin Shing Shopping Centre, 3 Tin Ching Street, escalated when a younger male staff member intervened with expletives, further inflaming the situation. The female patron retorted fiercely, threatening to call the police, while the male staff member dismissed her complaints, suggesting she was causing a scene without provocation.
Throughout the video, the manager sternly tells the woman, “You either sit down and have your tea or leave; that’s how simple it is,” before claiming authority over the premises with, “I run this place!” He confronts her financial status mockingly and repeatedly instructs her to leave if she continues to cause trouble, emphasizing that her behaviour was unwelcome.
As the video progresses, the manager and his colleague eventually distance themselves from the woman, who continues to argue and record the incident until the video cuts off.
This incident has sparked considerable commentary among netizens, with many criticising the manager’s approach to handling the situation. Comments ranged from shock at the manager’s directness to suggestions that such disputes should never escalate to verbal abuse, regardless of the circumstances. Others hinted at a deeper context, speculating on what might have led to such a confrontation and commenting on the assertiveness of the woman involved.
