Typhoon Yagi leads to six HK Express flight changes, ferry suspensions, and Citybus boosts for post-Signal No. 8 commute

5th September 2024 – (Hong Kong) As Typhoon Yagi intensifies and edges closer to Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Observatory has indicated it might escalate the warning signal to a Gale or Storm Signal No. 8 between 4pm and 7pm today.

In anticipation of the worsening conditions, Citybus has announced it will bolster its bus services during the afternoon to facilitate the evening commute before the signal upgrade takes effect. The transport provider ensures continuous service until approximately two to three hours post-activation of Signal No. 8, maintaining normal route operations until further notice.

Ferry services, significantly impacted by the typhoon, have seen multiple suspensions. Tsui Wah Ferry Service HK Limited and other operators have halted routes including Aberdeen to Po Toi Islands and several others until further notice, affecting daily commuters and residents on these outlying islands.

Hong Kong International Terminals has also taken preemptive measures by halting all container pick-ups and deliveries at several terminals from noon today, anticipating adverse weather impacts on port operations.

Meanwhile, Hong Kong Express Airways announced rescheduled flights for today due to operational adjustments:

  • Flight from Hong Kong to Osaka (Kansai) originally scheduled as UO688 at 14:55, has been rescheduled to UO862 at 15:45.
  • Flight from Osaka (Kansai) to Hong Kong originally scheduled as UO689 at 20:45, has been rescheduled to UO863 at 21:30.
  • Flight from Hong Kong to Seoul (Incheon) originally scheduled as UO626 at 16:45, has been rescheduled to UO618 on 6th September at 07:15.
  • Flight from Seoul (Incheon) to Hong Kong originally scheduled as UO627 at 22:35, has been rescheduled to UO619 on 6th September at 12:45.
  • Flight from Hong Kong to Phuket originally scheduled as UO764 at 20:10, has been rescheduled to UO762 on 6th September at 07:55.
  • Flight from Phuket to Hong Kong originally scheduled as UO765 at 23:40, has been rescheduled to UO761 on 6th September at 11:15.

In response to these changes, Hong Kong Express has announced special ticketing arrangements and has notified affected passengers via email and/or SMS. Passengers may rebook or request a full refund for untraveled segments according to the instructions provided in the email. Hong Kong Express advises passengers to review their emails for detailed rescheduling information and terms, and to complete any necessary arrangements by September 20, 2024.
