14th January 2025 – (Hong Kong) Wah Keung Metal Engineering Limited has been prosecuted by the Labour Department (LD) for breaching the Employment Ordinance (EO). The company appeared in the Fanling Magistrates’ Courts today, where it pleaded guilty and was fined $54,000.

The prosecution revealed that Wah Keung Metal Engineering had willfully failed, without reasonable excuse, to pay the wages of three employees within the required seven days following the end of their wage periods, resulting in a total of approximately $372,000 in unpaid wages.

A spokesperson for the Labour Department stated, “The ruling will disseminate a strong message to all employers that they must pay wages to employees within the statutory time limit stipulated in the EO.” The spokesman further asserted that the LD would not tolerate such offences and would continue to enforce the law rigorously to protect employees’ statutory rights.
