15th January 2025 – (Beijing) Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasised the need for strengthened connectivity between China and Vietnam during a phone conversation with To Lam, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV), on Wednesday. The discussion centred on collaborative efforts to establish a frontier platform for new quality productive forces and to create stable cross-border industrial and supply chains.
Marking the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations, Xi expressed satisfaction at the timing of their discussions, recalling the in-depth exchanges during To Lam’s state visit to China last August. He noted that both leaders had reached a broad consensus on advancing bilateral ties and promoting the socialist cause in their respective countries.
Over the past six months, Xi highlighted that both sides have made positive strides in implementing their agreed-upon cooperation initiatives. He outlined the year 2025 as significant, coinciding with the conclusion of China’s 14th Five-Year Plan and the preparation for the CPV’s 14th National Congress.
Xi urged both parties to rejuvenate their respective organisations, deepen exchanges on socialist theory and practical experiences, and work together amid unprecedented global changes. He underscored the importance of high-level political exchanges to reinforce cooperation and achieve tangible results.
Furthermore, Xi called for enhanced people-to-people and cultural exchanges, advocating for initiatives that foster connections between the youth and communities of both nations. He stressed the need for cooperation in media, culture, and tourism to build mutual understanding.
