22nd July 2023 – (Hong Kong) At around 11pm yesterday, police officers were patrolling along the East Kowloon Corridor towards Hung Hom when the automatic license plate recognition system in their vehicle detected a seven-seater car with an expired registration and a wanted owner. They followed and intercepted the car near the Fat Kwong Street bus stop. Upon opening the car doors, officers noticed a strong smell of suspected cannabis emanating from inside the car. They conducted a search and ultimately found a batch of suspected cannabis, cannabis buds, and cannabis oil drugs in the cabin, as well as a sum of cash.

Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the female driver held a probationary driving licence. However, she had previously been ordered to attend a driving improvement course due to a dangerous driving incident, but failed to retrieve her driving license afterwards. During the investigation, the female driver claimed that the seven-seater car was borrowed from a friend, but was evasive about the identity of the car’s owner. She was subsequently arrested for “drug trafficking” and “driving without a valid driving licence”, while another female passenger in the car was also arrested for drug trafficking and detained for further questioning. The whereabouts of the owner of the seven-seater car and the source of the drugs seized remain under investigation.
