29th October 2023 – (Hong Kong) In a startling incident that occurred last night at 8.37pm, an empty taxi careened out of control while making a left turn from Po Man Street onto Mong Lung Street in Shau Kei Wan. The vehicle crossed over to the opposite lane and collided with the pedestrian path adjacent to Exit C of the Shau Kei Wan MTR station. Witnesses at the scene promptly alerted authorities, seeking immediate assistance.

Law enforcement officers swiftly responded to the distress call, arriving at the site of the incident. Their initial observations of the taxi driver, identified as Yeung (43 years old), revealed an abnormal demeanour and the presence of nasal discharge. Traces of white powder were found in her nostrils. Yeung complained of a headache but remained conscious. As a precautionary measure, she was promptly transported to a medical facility for further evaluation and treatment. Upon preliminary investigation, law enforcement personnel administered a drug recognition evaluation, which Yeung ultimately failed. Consequently, she was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs.

In addition to the driver’s arrest, authorities also discovered potential violations of the Road Traffic (Construction and Maintenance of Vehicles) Regulations pertaining to the taxi in question. As a result, the vehicle was impounded and taken to the Quarry Bay Vehicle Pound for further examination.
