3rd November 2023 – (Hong Kong) The Major Sports Events Committee (MSEC) has recently announced that three major international sports events set to take place in early November have been awarded the prestigious “M” Mark status. These events include the Hong Kong Open 2023, the FIA World Rallycross Championship Hong Kong, China – Season Finale 2023, and the New World Harbour Race 2023.

Mr. Wilfred Ng, Chairman of the MSEC, expressed his excitement about the addition of these events to the “M” Mark roster, noting that they will contribute to the vibrancy and allure of Hong Kong, attracting more visitors from around the world.

The Hong Kong Open 2023, part of the Asian Tour’s International Series, will make a return to the renowned Hong Kong Golf Club in Fanling. This prestigious golf tournament has a rich history and is eagerly anticipated by golf enthusiasts and professionals alike. Additionally, the FIA World Rallycross Championship Hong Kong, China – Season Finale 2023 will make its debut in Hong Kong. It will be the first time the championship is held in the city, and it will feature a thrilling city centre circuit, marking a significant milestone in the event’s history. The New World Harbour Race, which has regained its status as a major international sports event, will round out the trio of exciting competitions taking place in November. These events not only showcase Hong Kong’s ability to host world-class sporting spectacles but also solidify its position as a hub for major international sports events.

The “M” Mark System was established to encourage and support local national sports associations, private organisations, and non-governmental organisations in organising more major international sports events and nurturing them into sustainable endeavours. Events that meet the assessment criteria set by the MSEC are granted the highly regarded “M” Mark status, which recognises their significance and quality. Furthermore, selected events may receive financial support from the committee, further bolstering their success.

The recognition of these three events with the “M” Mark status underscores Hong Kong’s commitment to promoting sports and attracting global attention. By fostering a vibrant sports scene, the city aims to enrich the lives of its residents and provide visitors with world-class entertainment and competition. These events serve not only as thrilling showcases of athletic prowess but also as platforms for cultural exchange and tourism promotion.
