29th October 2023 – (Ankara) Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan criticized the West on Saturday for its perceived failure to intervene and halt the Israeli offensive in Gaza. Speaking at a pro-Palestinian rally, Erdogan placed the blame squarely on Western nations for the ongoing violence and condemned Israel’s attacks on Gaza.
During his address, Erdogan stated that the West bore the greatest responsibility for the loss of life in Gaza. Despite the conflict between Israel and Hamas entering its 22nd day, he expressed disappointment that Western leaders had not taken a stronger stance, failing even to call for a ceasefire, let alone take concrete action.
The “Great Palestine Rally,” organized by Erdogan’s ruling Justice and Development Party, drew hundreds of thousands of supporters. The gathering aimed to demonstrate Turkey’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people in the face of what Erdogan described as Israeli oppression.
In response to Erdogan’s speech, Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen announced the recall of the country’s diplomatic representatives from Turkey. Furthermore, Cohen stated that Israel would reassess its relations with Turkey in light of recent events.
It is worth noting that Erdogan had cancelled a planned visit to Israel earlier in the week, which further strained the already tense relations between the two nations.
