Dr Om Murti Anil, an interventional cardiologist, has set a Guinness World Record for the ‘most viewers for a cardiovascular health awareness livestream on Facebook’.

Anil conducted a live awareness programme on heart disease prevention through his Facebook page on September 29, 2023 at 7:15 pm on the occasion of World Heart Day, which was watched live by 11,212 users.

“Most doctors treat patients, open hospitals and clinics and are involved in academic activities,” said Anil. “Apart from those activities, I have been making people aware of their cardiovascular health for a long time.”

With over 1.2 million followers on Facebook as of Friday, Anil presents medical information in a way that the ordinary public can easily understand and regularly posts informative videos on his page. He is popular on social media for the information he shares on heart-related issues.

After meeting the criteria set by the UK-based Guinness World Records, Dr Anil officially clinched the world record. However, it took some time for him to receive the official certificate from Guinness World Records.

“This record, apart from showcasing individual capacity, skills, and identity, will serve as an inspirational source for people worldwide,” he said . “This endeavour will contribute to social upliftment and raise awareness among the public about social responsibilities.”

Anil also earned recognition in the World Book of Records, London in March 2023 for “the longest running radio interview as a guest speaker on heart disease prevention.”

The 44 consecutive episodes of the interview were conducted in the 2013-14 and broadcast by Image FM 103.6 Mhz.

The use of mass media—radio, television, newspaper—and social media platforms like Facebook and X have helped disseminate information on various diseases and conditions.
